GigaLock Reseller Area

Welcome to the GigaLock Reseller Area!

Here you will be able to request new client accounts, as well as have access to technical support documents, how to's, etc.

Here are some FAQs. More available after logging in.

What is a GigaLock Reseller?

GigaLock Resellers sell the GigaLock backup service.  Resellers are the primary contact with their Customers.  Resellers manage Customer requirements, installations, maintenance, upgrades, restores, invoicing, etc.  GigaLock staff are expected to have very little interaction, if any, with Reseller Customers.  GigaLock simply bills Resellers for storage used (and any optional incidental technical support fees).

Are my Customers' data safe?

All files are encrypted on your Customers' computer/servers before being copied off-site.  All of your Customer files on our servers are strongly encrypted.  We offer several options for generating encryption keys.  Keys can be securely shared among several Reseller and Customer staff, if needed.

Customer files are uploading into the nationwide infrastructure of a major internet vendor. Files are immediately replicated into geographically distant sites.

We use only publicly available open-source software, which may be reviewed if desired.

Am I an appropriate Reseller for GigaLock?

GigaLock Resellers should have a fairly strong technical background.  Resellers should be experienced with backups and restores.  Remember, Resellers are the primary support to their Customers, so a solid IT back ground is recommended.

How does the GigaLock system work?

We will train you on how to define your Customers' backup needs, and how to install, maintain, and restore backups.  We will also have online documentation available to you.  You then work with your Customers to define their backup needs.  We will give you an installation tool with your branding. We will give you encryption keys for each of your clients (unless you choose to generate them yourself).  You need to store those digital keys in a safe and accessible off-site place. You then run that installation tool on your Customer's main computer or server, and then install the customer keys.  We will provide you with installation support, if needed. The GigaLock software periodically scans for changed files, encrypting those files, and then sending them to the GigaLock server network on an automated schedule. Your Customer's encrypted files on our server are sent daily into the transcontinental storage network. You need to periodically test restoring your Customer's important files; we will provide you with support, if needed. If you need to restore any of your Customer's files, contact us, and we can either walk you through the process, or we can use remote access tools to help you restore the files.

When are my Customer's files backed up?

The GigaLock service is highly configurable.  In the default configuration, the service wakes up every few hours and identifies files that have changed since the last backup.  Then, to minimize bandwidth and backed-up storage consumption, the service waits until the changed file is "quiet" for six hours, at which time the changed portions of that file are encrypted and copied off-site to the GigaLock servers. If the Customer continues to edit that changed file such that no "quiet" time is reached, the file will be backed up regardless after 24 hours.

On what platforms does the GigaLock service run?

The GigaLock backup service can be installed on recent Windows desktop and server operating systems, as well as on Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X systems.
